SUBJECT: November 2022 PTSA Newsletter

November 1st, 2022
2022 - 2023 School Year - Volume 17, Issue 3

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered their time to the school and/or PTSA. We really could not do all the events and activities without you!

Falloween was a great success, and we are so thankful to everyone who took time from their day to attend. We hope you had a wonderful time.

There are lots of exciting activities, events, and volunteer opportunities to read about in this month's newsletter!

Grand Ridge Cultural Club

Grand Ridge Cultural Club is an optional recess program that brings in parent volunteers to share their cultural heritage and customs with hands-on activities, games and crafts from a specific country or culture.

Students have the opportunity to "visit" another country and learn about different cultures during recess on Thursdays during our rainier months! This is a fun way for kids to get to know different areas of the world.

In order to start Cultural Club again, we are looking for country "hosts" to sign-up to lead on a Thursday for three 20-minute recess sessions (Noon - 1:30pm). Learn more and sign-up here!

Math Challenge is Live!

All Grand Ridge students are invited to participate in a free, virtual enrichment program called Math Challenge. Every two weeks a new challenge will be available to engage and challenge students to solve interesting math problems. Students can do one challenge or all of them!

Scholastic Book Fair

The book fair is back at Grand Ridge! It’s time to get ready for our Scholastic Book Fair, November 28th - December 2nd. Support our school library while purchasing affordable holiday gifts for your students or teachers.

We won’t be able to do the Scholastic Fair without our wonderful Volunteers. Please consider signing up to help with this wonderful event.

FUNdraising at Bellevue Ice Rink

Ice skating season is upon us, and the downtown Bellevue ice rink is partnering with Grand Ridge Elementary. Mention "Grand Ridge" when purchasing tickets and with each paid admission a $3 donation will be made to your PTSA during the 2022-2023 season.

Ice skating opens to the public on Friday, November 18 and closes on Sunday, January 8.

Thank You for Your Submissions!

Thank you to all students who submitted their original art for the Reflections Art Program! We have a talented group of artists at Grand Ridge. More information will be shared regarding the outcome of the submissions over the next few weeks.

Parent Playground

Parent Playground will begin in January! This is an opportunity to join your student at their lunch recess. It will happen on the first Friday of every month, beginning January 6, 2023. In order to join your child at recess, it is required that you be volunteer approved. The volunteer approval process can take several weeks so please plan accordingly and get your application in soon!

The PTSA wants to show our appreciation for our Grand Ridge staff by throwing them a “Souper” Staff lunch.

Please consider contributing by making your favorite soup or salad or by picking up drinks, bread, crackers or making/buying a delicious dessert.  You can sign up here to help!

Room Parent Needed

We still have one teacher who needs a Room Parent! If you have a child in Mr. Knowles class and would be willing to help out, please reach out to Mr. Knowles, or grptsavoluneers@gmail.com. This is a fun way to help support your child's class. We will be having a training for all room parents in November!

VOICE Mentors Needed

Grand Ridge is in need of parents/community members who can volunteer up to 60 minutes each week to provide support for a student who has been prioritized to receive a mentor. The VOICE Mentor Program connects ISD students with mentors for one-on-one social, emotional and academic support.

All mentors receive training before being matched.  Mentoring sessions are held at school during school hours and can include playing games, helping with school or just having a great conversation. Supportive relationships matter – Grand Ridge currently has 6 students on the waiting list. Please consider volunteering.  Visit the ISD website to Learn more about the VOICE Mentor Program.

Is your student missing something?

The Lost & Found fills up quickly. If your student is missing something, please direct them to check the Lost & Found. The Lost & Found will also be made available at Grand Central on Wednesday afternoons for families to check. Unclaimed items are typically donated twice a year (December and June).
