Spotlight On: Ms. Tautfest
Ms. Rachel Tautfest has been with Grand Ridge for 5 years. She teaches 5th Grade.
Favorite children's book: My favorite children’s book is The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf. I love the story because it has the message that you can be whatever YOU want to be in life. Your looks never have to define who you are. You can be a big, scary looking bull and still be the sweet, peaceful and loving like Ferdinand. Ferdinand shows that at the end of the day, you get to decide what kind of person you are in this world and how you treat those around you.
Favorite food: My favorite food is anything that has to do with potatoes! I love baked potatoes, French fries, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, au gratin potatoes, the list goes on.
Favorite weekend activity: My favorite weekend activity is spending time with my husband Glen and my dog Barney. You can often find us at the dog park, Beaver Lake kayaking, at a farmers' market or on a local hiking trail. On the weekends when the weather is not so nice, I love to read books and binge-watch my favorite Netflix shows.
Best thing about working at Grand Ridge: The best thing about working at Grand Ridge is the community. I love my students and their families; they always make me feel so welcome and supported. The PTSA and parent volunteers are amazing in every way. I have yet to see a school with a more tight-knit community than Grand Ridge. I love the school and the people that surround it.
What one piece of advice would you give to Grand Ridge students? One piece of advice I would give to Grand Ridge students is to enjoy school as much as you can. As a 5th grade teacher, I often tell my students to really enjoy their last year of elementary school in any ways that they can. Go out to recess, make new friends, play games, get to really know your teacher and just enjoy the classroom community that you are a part of. I loved elementary school and I hope that every child does as well!
